Telangana Focuses on Drinking Water Supply and Rural Road Development

The Telangana government has said that drinking water supply is continuing smoothly in nearly 90 percent of villages across the state. Officials have been instructed to respond immediately to issues in the remaining areas and ensure uninterrupted water supply during the coming months.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka reviewed the progress of Mission Bhagiratha during a high level meeting at the Secretariat. She directed officials to closely monitor the water situation and remain prepared to tackle any challenges, particularly in view of changing weather conditions linked to the El Nino effect.

During the review, officials informed the minister that although water levels have declined in reservoirs such as Singur and Paleru, a comprehensive action plan has been prepared to maintain drinking water supply for the next 100 days. The minister instructed departments to implement the plan without delay and conduct daily assessments of reservoir storage levels.

Seethakka also said that funds received under the Sixteenth Finance Commission can be utilised for drinking water projects. She stressed that providing safe drinking water should remain the highest priority in accordance with the Central Government guidelines.

The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary Dana Kishore, Mission Bhagiratha Engineer in Chief Kripakar Reddy, chief engineers and other senior officials who reviewed the preparedness for water supply management across the state.

The minister also reviewed the progress of rural road development projects and announced that construction under the Hybrid Annuity Model will begin soon. The government plans to build nearly 18472 kilometres of roads across 6703 villages, aiming to provide rural roads with standards comparable to those in urban areas.
