Sanjay Jaju for CS: Sanjay Jaju Likely to Become Telangana Chief Secretary as Veteran IAS Officer Returns
Sanjay Jaju for CS: Senior IAS officer Sanjay Jaju is expected to take over as Telangana Chief Secretary bringing extensive experience in digital governance infrastructure development and public administration.

Sanjay Jaju for CS: Telangana is set to witness a major administrative transition with senior IAS officer Sanjay Jaju emerging as the frontrunner for the post of Chief Secretary. With the current Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao scheduled to retire at the end of the month, the state government is expected to entrust the top bureaucratic position to the experienced officer.
The Union Government recently cleared Jaju’s transfer from central services to Telangana, a move that has strengthened speculation about his appointment. Sources indicate that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reviewed multiple options before reportedly favoring Jaju for the crucial role.
A 1992 batch IAS officer, Sanjay Jaju has built a reputation as one of the most accomplished administrators from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh cadre. Over the years, he served in several important positions including Sub Collector of Vijayawada, Collector of West Godavari, Commissioner of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Commissioner of Civil Supplies.
Jaju is widely recognized for pioneering major technology driven public service initiatives. He played a key role in developing Meeseva and Saukaryam, two landmark digital governance projects that transformed the delivery of citizen services and improved transparency in public administration.
His contributions extended far beyond state administration. Since moving to central deputation in 2014, Jaju has handled several strategic assignments within the Government of India. His work in digital governance, infrastructure planning and policy implementation earned him recognition across multiple sectors.
As Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he oversaw initiatives related to media regulation, digital content management and modernization of government communication systems. He was also associated with efforts aimed at strengthening India’s presence in the global media and entertainment landscape.
Between 2018 and 2022, Jaju served in the Department of Defence Production, where he contributed to the implementation of key self reliance initiatives in the defence sector. He was closely associated with programs encouraging indigenous technology development, innovation and startup participation in defence manufacturing.
Earlier, as Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation, he played a significant role in advancing strategic road and tunnel projects in border regions, northeastern states and island territories. His work focused on improving connectivity in some of the country’s most challenging terrains.
With extensive experience spanning grassroots administration, digital transformation, infrastructure development and national level policymaking, analysts believe Sanjay Jaju’s return could further strengthen Telangana’s governance framework and administrative efficiency.
