Government Reviews SBI Accounts: Telangana Government Reviews SBI Accounts Across Departments
The Telangana government is gathering details of SBI accounts held by departments and public bodies amid reports of possible deposit shifts following a dispute over land auction issues.

Government Reviews SBI Accounts: The Telangana government has reportedly begun collecting detailed information on accounts maintained with the State Bank of India by government departments, public sector institutions, and state corporations. Officials said the Finance Department has asked secretaries and department heads to provide complete details of deposits and accounts linked to SBI.
The move comes amid growing discussions within government circles following a recent dispute involving land that had been allotted to SBI in the past and was later auctioned by the state government. Reports suggest that the issue intensified after bank officials approached the court regarding the matter, leading to heightened attention from the state administration.
According to sources, departments have also been advised to seek approval before placing any new deposits with SBI. The Finance Department is understood to be reviewing the volume of funds currently parked in the bank and assessing the overall financial exposure of various government entities.
While speculation continues about a possible transfer of government deposits to other banking institutions, officials have maintained that no formal orders have been issued so far. A senior official indicated that the process of shifting deposits has not yet started and remains under consideration.
In a significant development, a delegation of SBI officials met State Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao on Monday. The meeting took place at the Centre for Good Governance and was attended by the bank’s Chief General Manager along with other senior representatives from the state.
During the discussion, SBI officials reportedly explained their position regarding the land dispute and requested the Chief Secretary’s intervention to help resolve the issue. They conveyed that the land had been allotted to the bank earlier and sought a constructive solution through discussions with the government.
Although the government has not officially confirmed any decision regarding its banking arrangements, the ongoing review of SBI accounts indicates that financial transactions and deposits held by various departments are currently under close examination.
