Hyderabad Cycle Tracks: Hyderabad Plans New Cycle Track Network to Ease IT Corridor Traffic

Hyderabad Cycle Tracks: Hyderabad is preparing for a major boost in sustainable transportation as authorities move forward with plans to connect the city’s existing ORR cycle track with key destinations across the IT corridor. The initiative is expected to provide a practical alternative for short distance travel while helping reduce daily traffic congestion.

To improve accessibility, the Urban Mass Transit Authority has identified ten important routes linking major technology hubs, commercial zones and residential areas with the 23 kilometre international standard cycle track already operating along the Outer Ring Road corridor. Officials believe the project can significantly improve commuting options for thousands of employees working in the city’s technology sector.

At present, the dedicated cycle track stretches from Nanakramguda to the Telangana State Police Academy and from Narsingi to Kollur Junction. Entry points and cycle rental facilities are already available at several locations. However, limited connectivity with nearby office districts and residential neighbourhoods has prevented the facility from reaching its full potential.

The newly proposed routes will cover several important areas including Gachibowli, Hitech City, Financial District, Kokapet, Jubilee Hills, Kukatpally and Ameerpet. Authorities selected these corridors after conducting field studies and assessing road infrastructure across the IT belt. Many of the roads are wide enough to accommodate dedicated cycling lanes without major disruptions.

Traffic congestion remains one of the biggest challenges in Hyderabad’s IT corridor, particularly during rainfall when roads in Gachibowli, Madhapur and Hitech City often experience severe delays. Officials expect the expanded cycling network to encourage more people to choose bicycles for short journeys instead of relying on private vehicles.

Apart from reducing traffic pressure, the project is also expected to promote healthier lifestyles and lower pollution levels. Urban development officials believe the integrated cycle track system can become an important part of Hyderabad’s future mobility network. Funding approvals for the proposed routes are expected in the coming months.
