Telangana Grain Procurement Must Be Completed Quickly Says CM Revanth Reddy

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy warned officials against negligence in grain procurement and directed collectors to speed up paddy and maize purchases while ensuring farmers face no difficulties.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed district collectors and officials to complete paddy and maize procurement across the state on a war footing. Stressing that negligence will not be tolerated, the Chief Minister warned that even collectors could face action if they fail to respond properly to the situation.

During a video conference with district collectors on Tuesday, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of grain procurement and discussed problems being reported from various districts. He instructed officials to visit procurement centres personally and ensure farmers do not face inconvenience during the process.

The Chief Minister made it clear that contractors failing to provide enough transport vehicles for grain movement should not be spared. He said criminal cases could also be filed against contractors who violate agreements and delay transportation. The Transport Department Commissioner was instructed to ensure sufficient lorries are available for shifting grain from procurement centres.

Revanth Reddy also raised concerns over storage shortages in several areas. He directed collectors to create temporary arrangements wherever godown space is unavailable. Officials were told to use function halls, Rythu Bazaars, and other nearby facilities for temporary grain storage before shifting stocks to warehouses.

The government also asked officials to make sure there is no shortage of gunny bags and labour workers at procurement centres. Local hamalis should be engaged immediately to prevent delays in loading operations at rice mills and transport points.

Special focus was placed on protecting farmers from losses caused by unseasonal rains. The Chief Minister ordered officials to provide tarpaulins at procurement yards so harvested grain does not get damaged due to unexpected weather conditions. District collectors from maize producing regions were asked to remain extra alert and seek police assistance wherever required to ensure smooth procurement.

Officials were also instructed to provide receipts immediately after grain is loaded into transport vehicles. According to the Chief Minister, this would help prevent irregularities related to weight deductions and illegal cuts during procurement.

The state government has also asked collectors to submit regular reports on grain and maize procurement to the Chief Secretary. Revanth Reddy emphasized that district collectors must directly monitor the entire process and take responsibility for resolving issues without delay.

Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy assured collectors that the government is ready to extend every possible support to solve procurement related problems. He directed officials to immediately bring any local issue to the government’s attention so quick decisions can be taken.

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao stated that grain from neighbouring states is reportedly entering Telangana procurement centres, creating pressure in some districts. He asked collectors in border areas to remain vigilant and prevent such movement. The minister also stressed that the procurement process should be completed before the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government received a major relief after the Centre increased the boiled rice quota for the state for the 2025 26 season. The Centre had initially reduced the quota from 30 lakh tonnes to 20 lakh tonnes, creating concerns for the ongoing Yasangi season.

Following repeated requests from the Telangana government, including direct intervention by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during his Delhi visit, the Centre approved an additional 14.78 lakh tonnes of boiled rice quota for the state. Officials said the decision would help ease pressure on rice mills and procurement operations across Telangana.
