Hyderabad Nepali Gang Theft Shocks City After Professor Couple Escape Danger

A retired professor couple in Hyderabad narrowly escaped harm after a Nepali gang allegedly drugged, tied, and robbed them during a fake birthday celebration at their residence.

Another shocking robbery linked to a suspected Nepali gang has created fear in Hyderabad, just days after the sensational murder of a retired IPS officer’s wife in Jubilee Hills. This time, a retired professor and his wife narrowly escaped danger after being targeted inside their own home on the city outskirts.

The incident took place in Kowkoor under the Jawaharnagar police station limits in Medchal Malkajgiri district. Retired professor Muralidhar Mohan and his wife Dr Vijayalakshmi had recently employed a Nepali couple for household work. Over time, the workers reportedly gained the trust of the elderly couple and became close to the family.

According to police sources, another woman claiming to be a relative of the Nepali couple later joined them at the house. On May 11, the workers requested permission to celebrate a birthday inside the residence, saying it was the woman’s birthday. The professor couple agreed without suspecting anything unusual.

Later in the evening, a few more people arrived at the house claiming to be relatives invited for the celebration. The group cut a cake and even offered it to the elderly couple before continuing the party inside the home.

While the professor and his wife were having dinner, the gang allegedly pretended to continue the birthday celebration. Moments later, the accused reportedly attacked the couple from behind, tied their hands, and threatened them. Terrified, the couple begged the intruders not to harm them and told them to take whatever valuables they wanted.

Investigators believe the gang mixed intoxicating substances in the food given to the couple. After tying them up inside a room, the accused escaped with gold ornaments and other valuable items. The gang reportedly locked the main gate from outside before fleeing from the scene.

Due to the effect of the suspected sedatives, the elderly couple remained unconscious and helpless until Tuesday afternoon. Their ordeal came to light only after local residents passing through the colony heard calls for help from inside the house. Neighbors rushed to the spot and rescued them after opening the locked gates.

Police suspect that around seven members were involved in the robbery. Officials stated that the victims escaped without physical injuries because they pleaded with the attackers not to harm them during the theft.

The incident has once again raised concerns about verification of domestic workers in Hyderabad. Following recent crimes involving suspected Nepali gangs, city police have intensified background checks and asked residents to submit identity details and photographs of domestic workers at local police stations.

Authorities are also advising families employing domestic help to remain alert and immediately report suspicious behavior to the police.
