YouTube Inspired ATM Theft Attempt Ends in Arrest in Telangana
Two security guards in Telangana allegedly planned an ATM robbery after watching YouTube videos, but their attempt failed when the machine alarm sounded, leading police to eventually track them down.

A failed ATM theft attempt in Telangana has exposed how some youngsters are turning to online videos for criminal ideas in the hope of making quick money. What began as a plan for easy cash ended with two men landing in police custody after investigators traced them through CCTV footage.
The incident came to light in Suryapet district, where two private security employees allegedly attempted to break open an ATM machine during the night. According to police, the accused were working as security guard supervisors at a private food company in Jadcherla but were struggling financially and wanted to earn money quickly.
Police identified the accused as Motukuri Ramanachari from Srirampuram in Nereducharla mandal and Mohan Kumar Reddy from Andhra Pradesh. Investigators said the duo had recently met another man named Ramesh from Lavudi Thanda in Damarcherla mandal regarding a possible job opportunity at YTPS.
As officials were unavailable at the time, the three reportedly spent time together and later consumed alcohol at a nearby wine shop. After Ramesh left the area, the two accused allegedly began discussing ways to overcome their financial problems. They then decided to target a DBS Bank ATM located nearby.
According to the investigation, the duo watched YouTube videos to learn how ATM thefts are carried out. Later that night, they covered their faces with masks, entered the ATM kiosk carrying an iron rod, and attempted to damage the machine. However, the ATM alarm suddenly went off, forcing them to flee the scene in panic before they could steal any money.
To avoid suspicion, the accused reportedly returned to their regular jobs as security guards in Jadcherla after the failed attempt. Meanwhile, Vadapalli police registered a case and launched an investigation into the attempted robbery.
During the probe, police examined CCTV footage from the ATM center and questioned Ramesh, who had reportedly been with the accused earlier that day. Based on the evidence collected, officers traced and arrested Ramanachari and Mohan Kumar Reddy.
Police officials said they seized the iron rod used in the attempted break in along with a bag and mobile phone from the accused. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
