Hyderabad police have stepped up action against people consuming alcohol and smoking cigarettes in public places. In a recent special drive conducted across several parts of the city, officers detained more than 100 individuals for violating public safety rules.

The sudden inspections created panic among habitual offenders who regularly gather near roadsides, apartment cellars, parks, and isolated areas during late evening hours.

Complaints From Residents Trigger Action

Police officials said repeated complaints were received from residents regarding nuisance caused by public drinking and smoking. Families, women, and children were reportedly facing inconvenience due to groups creating disturbance in open areas.

Following the complaints, police teams carried out surprise checks at major junctions, bus stands, public parks, and other crowded locations. Authorities stated that maintaining public discipline and ensuring safer surroundings had become a priority.

Youth Among Those Detained

Among the 110 people taken into custody, a large number were youngsters. Police registered cases under different legal sections against the violators and also conducted counselling sessions for some of them at police stations.

Officials warned that repeated violations would invite stricter action in the coming days. Along with fines for public smoking, those consuming alcohol openly in public spaces may also face legal consequences.

Women Welcome Police Decision

Residents across the city have appreciated the police crackdown, especially people living in busy residential areas. Women travelling during night hours said the intensified checks would improve safety on roads and reduce harassment caused by drunken behaviour in public.

Police officials made it clear that continuous monitoring would remain in place and that any activity disturbing public peace would not be tolerated.
