Telangana Sees Record Beer Sales Amid Rising Summer Heat
Beer sales across Telangana touched record levels during April as extreme summer temperatures along with IPL matches and wedding celebrations pushed demand sharply higher across the state.

The scorching summer in Telangana has triggered an unexpected surge in beer sales, with excise officials reporting record breaking demand across the state. As temperatures continue to rise, many consumers are choosing chilled beer as a preferred way to cope with the intense heat.
According to excise department figures, nearly 50.05 lakh beer cases were sold across Telangana during April alone. This translates to almost six crore beer bottles being purchased within a single month, highlighting the sharp increase in consumption compared to previous years.
Officials noted that sales have risen significantly when compared to the same period last year. During April of the previous year, around 41.39 lakh beer cases were sold, whereas this year saw an additional nine lakh cases being purchased, setting a new benchmark for beer consumption in the state.
Apart from the hot weather, the ongoing IPL cricket season has also contributed heavily to the increase in sales. Many cricket fans are gathering during evening matches and consuming beer while watching games, especially during weekend fixtures and late night encounters.
The wedding and celebration season during April and May has further boosted demand. Beer consumption at parties, function halls and private gatherings has increased sharply as social events continue across the state during the summer months.
Excise officials believe the demand may rise even further in May as temperatures are expected to climb higher. Internal estimates suggest beer sales could touch nearly 75 lakh cases before the month ends if the current trend continues.
To avoid shortages, authorities are ensuring regular movement of stock from depots to liquor outlets across Telangana. Retailers are also witnessing faster stock turnover compared to previous years due to continuous demand.
The surge in sales is generating substantial revenue for the state government through excise collections. Analysts say that if the summer conditions continue for a few more weeks, Telangana may witness the highest beer sales ever recorded in the state’s liquor market history.
