A 20-year-old newlywed woman died by suicide in Ghatkesar, with her family alleging harassment over additional dowry just 18 days after her marriage to a police constable.

Ghaturkeskar Newlywed Suicide: A 20-year-old woman died by suicide in the Ghatkesar area of Medchal Malkajgiri district, just 18 days after her marriage. Her family has alleged that she faced physical and mental harassment over demands for additional dowry.
The deceased woman was identified as Pallavi, the daughter of Enugu Madhusudan Reddy from Katepalli village in Motakondur mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. She was pursuing her third year of BTech at KPRIT College in Ghanapur, Ghatkesar.
Pallavi had married Srikanth Reddy, a police constable, on August 30 at Chaitanyapuri. According to her family, problems began soon after the wedding, with allegations that she was subjected to pressure and harassment over additional dowry.
The situation reportedly became difficult for the young woman within days of her marriage. Her family has alleged that the harassment affected her both physically and emotionally.
The incident took place at the college where Pallavi was studying. Police said she died after falling from the third floor of the college building. The circumstances surrounding her death are now being examined as part of the investigation.
Pallavi’s mother, Sandhya, approached the Ghatkesar police and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, police have begun looking into the allegations and the events leading up to her death.
The case has brought attention once again to the pressure faced by women over dowry demands, particularly when such allegations emerge soon after a marriage. Investigators are expected to examine the family’s claims, statements from people connected to the couple and other available evidence before determining what led to the incident.
Pallavi was still pursuing her engineering degree and had been married only a little over two weeks before the tragedy. Her death has left her family facing a sudden loss while the police investigation continues.
At this stage, the allegations made by the family remain subject to investigation. The police will have to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged harassment and determine whether any criminal offences were committed in connection with the death.
The Ghatkesar police are continuing their inquiry based on the complaint submitted by Pallavi’s mother.
