KTR Appears Before Nampally ACB Court in Formula E Case

BRS working president and former Telangana minister K T Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, appeared before the Nampally ACB Special Court in Hyderabad in connection with the Formula E case. The hearing relates to allegations surrounding financial transactions made during arrangements for the Formula E event in the city.

KTR appeared before the court along with former senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar, former HMDA chief engineer B L N Reddy and sports consultant Kiran Malleswara Rao. All four are facing allegations in connection with the case.

The matter concerns payments made by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority for the Formula E event. The Anti Corruption Bureau has raised questions over the transfer of around Rs 55 crore to a foreign organisation and the procedures followed before the payment was made.

According to the allegations in the case, the funds were transferred without obtaining the required prior approvals. The investigating agency has also alleged violations of financial rules and established procedures while processing the payment.

The Formula E race was conducted in Hyderabad in February 2023 during the previous BRS government. The financial transactions associated with the event later came under the ACB investigation, leading to the registration of the case against the accused.

Following its investigation, the ACB submitted a chargesheet before the special court. After considering the report, the court issued summons to the accused and directed them to appear during the proceedings.

KTR had previously sought exemption from appearing before the court during an earlier hearing, citing personal reasons. The matter was subsequently adjourned, and he appeared before the court for the latest proceedings.

The case has attracted considerable political attention in Telangana. KTR has rejected the allegations against him and has previously questioned the basis of the case. His side has maintained that the Formula E arrangements were undertaken in the interest of Hyderabad and that the allegations are politically motivated.

The allegations made by the investigating agency are yet to be established through the judicial process. The court proceedings will determine how the charges and the evidence presented by the investigating agency are dealt with.

The Formula E event had been promoted as an international motorsport competition that could bring global attention to Hyderabad and support the city’s electric vehicle ecosystem. The financial arrangements connected with the event have since become the central issue in the ACB case.

The appearance of the accused before the special court marks another step in the proceedings. The court is expected to consider the matter further as the case progresses.

For KTR, the latest appearance comes as the legal proceedings surrounding the Formula E case continue. The other accused will also face the court process as the allegations and evidence are examined.

The case is expected to remain a significant legal and political issue in Telangana, with further hearings likely to provide clarity on the allegations and the arguments put forward by both sides.
