Telangana Assembly Row: The Telangana Assembly witnessed an emotional and heated discussion over remarks allegedly made by BRS MLC Tata Madhu against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

The issue came up for discussion during the Assembly session after Congress members strongly objected to Madhu’s comments. Several ministers and legislators condemned the language used against the Speaker and demanded action against the BRS leader.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy described the incident as a serious insult to the dignity of the Assembly. He said the Speaker’s position carries constitutional importance and should be respected irrespective of political differences.

Revanth Reddy also demanded that BRS chief KCR apologise over the episode and ask Tata Madhu to resign from the Legislative Council. He said such remarks should not be allowed to become a precedent inside legislative institutions.

The Chief Minister further accused the BRS of having an anti Dalit approach and referred to several political issues from the party’s previous tenure. He said the government would not remain silent if attempts were made to intimidate constitutional institutions.

The controversy also brought an emotional response from Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Speaking to reporters, he said Madhu’s remarks had deeply hurt him. He became visibly emotional while referring to Minister Seethakka, who had also spoken about the issue in the House.

Prasad Kumar said the Assembly would pass a resolution on the matter and forward it to the Legislative Council for further action.

Congress ministers Sridhar Babu, Laxman Kumar, Ponnam Prabhakar, Jupally Krishna Rao and Seethakka also condemned the comments. They called for Madhu’s Council membership to be cancelled and demanded that a case be registered under the relevant provisions.

The controversy was not limited to the ruling party. BJP and AIMIM members also criticised the remarks and called for action against the BRS MLC. CPI members too joined the condemnation.

At one point during the proceedings, BJP members entered the area near the Speaker’s podium while demanding a discussion on another issue under Rule 22A. They later staged a protest there.

Revanth Reddy questioned why the BJP was raising a separate issue when the Assembly was dealing with what he described as an insult to the Speaker. He urged political parties to respond collectively when the dignity of the legislature was involved.

The dispute began after BRS legislators and leaders reacted strongly to the alleged remarks by Tata Madhu. Dalit MLAs and MLCs from the Congress submitted a representation to the Speaker and Legislative Council Chairman seeking action.

The episode has now become a fresh point of confrontation between the ruling Congress and the BRS, with the issue expected to move to the Legislative Council as well.
