Revanth Reddy Gets Golden Rakhi from Surekha Amid Political Uncertainty

Konda Surekha met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Rakhi Purnima and tied him a specially made golden rakhi, as questions continue over her future in the Telangana cabinet.

Minister Konda Surekha’s meeting with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Rakhi Purnima has drawn attention amid the political uncertainty surrounding her position in the Congress government.

Surekha met Revanth Reddy at his residence along with fellow minister Seethakka and tied a rakhi to the Chief Minister. She also tied rakhis to Revanth Reddy’s son in law and grandson, according to her statement. Surekha said she has been tying a rakhi to Revanth for the past three years and had specially arranged a golden rakhi for him this time.

The meeting comes at a time when Surekha is facing questions over her political future. Her daughter Susmitha recently made comments targeting Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, leading to a political controversy within the Telangana Congress.

The party sought an explanation from Surekha over the issue. The Congress disciplinary committee is also understood to have recommended action against her. The final decision, however, is still pending with the party’s central leadership.

Against this backdrop, Surekha’s decision to meet Revanth Reddy personally on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima has attracted attention. There was no political discussion during the meeting, according to reports. Surekha herself said she did not want to speak about politics on the festival occasion.

Instead, she spoke about her wishes for the Chief Minister and the women of Telangana. Surekha said she wanted Revanth Reddy to provide good governance and hoped that women in the state would continue to receive his support and blessings.

Her remarks have added another layer to the ongoing political discussion. While the meeting itself was presented as a Rakhi occasion, it took place when the question of possible disciplinary action against Surekha remains unresolved.

The next major developments are expected after Congress general secretary KC Venugopal returns from his foreign visit. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud are expected to travel to Delhi for discussions with the party leadership.

The issue concerning Surekha could also come up during those meetings. Congress leaders are expected to discuss the disciplinary committee’s recommendation and decide how to handle the matter before the Telangana Assembly session begins on September 7.

There has also been speculation within political circles about a possible change in the state cabinet. If Surekha is eventually removed, Adi Srinivas is being discussed as a possible replacement, although there has been no final announcement from the party.

Surekha, meanwhile, appears to be trying to put forward her side of the story. Sources close to her say she is ready to explain her position personally to Revanth Reddy if she gets an opportunity.

That opportunity does not appear to have come during the Rakhi meeting. The focus remained on the festival, with Surekha avoiding any direct political discussion.

For now, the golden rakhi presented by Surekha has become a talking point in Telangana politics because of the timing. Her meeting with Revanth Reddy came when speculation over possible action against her was already gaining momentum.

The coming days could therefore be important for Surekha. The Congress leadership’s discussions in Delhi and the decision on the disciplinary recommendation are likely to determine whether the issue settles down or develops into a bigger political challenge for the minister.
