Tata Group has confirmed plans to merge Vistara with Air India by March 2024 while Singapore Airlines is expected to invest more than Rs 2000 crore in Air India.

Tata Confirms Air India and Vistara Merger Plan
New Delhi :-The Tata Group has officially announced that Vistara will be merged with Air India, with the integration expected to be completed by March 2024. The move is aimed at strengthening the group’s aviation business and creating a larger full service airline under the Air India brand.
The merger follows months of discussions between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, which had earlier confirmed that confidential talks regarding Vistara’s future were underway.
Singapore Airlines to Invest in Air India
As part of the proposed transaction, Singapore Airlines is expected to invest more than Rs 2000 crore in Air India. The investment will support the merged airline and reinforce the long term partnership between the two aviation companies.
At present, Tata Group owns a 51 percent stake in Vistara, while the remaining 49 percent is held by Singapore Airlines.
Tata Strengthens Its Aviation Portfolio
The merger marks another significant step in Tata Group’s efforts to consolidate its airline operations. The group already owns Air India and also holds an 83.67 percent stake in AirAsia India, expanding its presence across India’s aviation sector.
Earlier this year, Tata Group completed the acquisition of Air India from the Government of India in a deal valued at around Rs 18000 crore, bringing the national carrier back under Tata ownership.
Merger Expected by March 2024
The companies have set a target of completing the merger by March 2024, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals and procedural requirements. Once completed, the combined airline is expected to strengthen Air India’s position in both domestic and international markets while improving operational efficiency under a unified brand.
