India Set to Launch 5G in October as Government Targets 6G by 2030
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will launch 5G services in October while work on 6G is already underway with a national rollout targeted before 2030.
India Prepares for the 5G Era
New Delhi :-India is set to enter the next phase of digital connectivity with the launch of 5G services in October, while preparations for 6G technology are already in progress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government aims to introduce 6G services in the country before 2030 as part of its long term technology vision.
Speaking at the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022, the Prime Minister highlighted the rapid pace of technological growth in the country and stressed the importance of innovation in driving India’s future.
Technology Driving National Growth
Modi said emerging technologies are creating new opportunities across multiple sectors, with drones already being used in agriculture and healthcare. He added that the government is encouraging innovation in areas such as gaming and digital technology to empower young people and strengthen the country’s technology ecosystem.
He urged the youth to make the best use of technological advancements and contribute to India’s development through innovation and entrepreneurship.
5G Expansion Planned Beyond Metro Cities
The Prime Minister also said the government is committed to extending 5G connectivity beyond urban centres and into rural regions. According to him, India has witnessed significant technological progress over the past several years, laying the foundation for the nationwide expansion of advanced communication services.
Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also confirmed that 5G services are expected to begin on October 12, with a phased rollout planned across the country.
First Phase to Cover 13 Cities
According to official sources, the first phase of the rollout will begin in 13 major cities. These include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune.
Initially, 5G connectivity will be available only in selected areas within these cities before being expanded further in the coming months. The government has indicated that wider coverage, including rural regions, will be introduced gradually over the next few years.
