VinFast Expands India EV Plans With New Electric Two Wheeler Patent Filings
Vietnam based EV maker VinFast has filed fresh two wheeler design patents in India signaling broader expansion plans with electric scooters and motorcycles expected to strengthen competition across the growing market.

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is stepping up its plans for the Indian electric mobility market. The company has now filed design patents for two new electric two wheelers, indicating that its India strategy will extend beyond scooters to include electric motorcycles.
The latest patent applications cover the Viper electric scooter and a new electric motorcycle inspired by the Sulad Concept. With these additions, VinFast appears to be preparing a stronger product lineup ahead of its planned India launch in 2026.
The Viper electric scooter features a sporty design with a sharp front fascia, sleek body lines and five spoke alloy wheels. The model is equipped with a hub mounted electric motor and is expected to offer a practical riding experience for daily city travel. In Vietnam, the scooter is available with a 4.8 kWh battery pack paired with a 3 kW electric motor. The Indian version may retain similar specifications or receive market specific updates.
The second patent is for an electric motorcycle based on the Sulad Concept that was showcased earlier this year. Although VinFast has not officially revealed its technical specifications, industry expectations suggest it could feature a powerful 50 kW electric motor. Reports also indicate that the motorcycle may achieve a top speed of around 130 kilometers per hour, making it one of the more performance focused electric bikes in its segment.
VinFast had earlier confirmed that it would launch electric scooters in India by 2026. While the company initially planned to introduce only three scooter models, the latest patent filings suggest a much broader product strategy. The addition of electric motorcycles highlights the brand’s ambition to compete across multiple segments of the fast growing Indian EV market.
With fresh designs, modern styling and advanced electric technology, VinFast is positioning itself as a serious contender in India’s two wheeler EV space. The company is expected to announce official launch timelines and product details in the coming months as it prepares to challenge established electric mobility brands.
