India First Hydrogen Train to Offer Travel Starting at Just Rs 5

India is set to take a major step towards greener rail transport with the launch of its first hydrogen powered train. The service will operate on the Jind Sonipat route in Haryana under the Northern Railway zone, introducing an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional diesel powered trains.

One of the biggest highlights of the new train is its affordable fare structure. The minimum ticket price has been fixed at just Rs 5, while the maximum fare will be Rs 25. In many cases, the lowest fare is even cheaper than the cost of a platform ticket at several railway stations. Passengers will be able to purchase tickets through the IRCTC platform as well as railway booking counters.

The hydrogen train is scheduled to cover a total distance of 356 kilometres every day with two round trips on the route. Railway officials have also indicated that similar services could be introduced on additional routes in the future as the technology expands.

Designed with passenger comfort in mind, the train will feature 10 fully air conditioned coaches equipped with automatic doors and comfortable seating arrangements. The train will be capable of carrying nearly 2600 passengers and will halt at 11 stations along its journey.

Powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology, the train has a maximum design speed of 120 kilometres per hour. However, for operational safety during the initial phase, its running speed will be restricted to 75 kilometres per hour.

The distance between Jind and Sonipat is around 89 kilometres, and the journey is expected to take about two hours. With affordable ticket prices, modern facilities and clean energy technology, the hydrogen train is expected to mark an important milestone in the modernization of India’s railway network.
