Instagram Reels Dispute Ends in Double Suicide in Haryana
A family dispute over Instagram reels and clothing choices allegedly pushed a Haryana couple into depression, ending in a tragic suicide case that shocked Panipat district residents.

A shocking incident from Haryana’s Panipat district has highlighted how social media related family conflicts can spiral into tragedy. A middle aged couple allegedly died by suicide after prolonged tensions with their daughter in law over Instagram reels and frequent domestic disputes.
The deceased were identified as Rajesh, 46, and his wife Suman, 44, residents of Nara village in Panipat district. According to police and family members, the couple consumed poison at their home on May 9 after reportedly facing ongoing mental stress linked to family disagreements.
Their son Ashish had married Sneha, a young woman from Delhi, in January 2025 after a love relationship. Relatives said Sneha was active on social media even before marriage and regularly created Instagram reels. After moving to the village following marriage, she allegedly continued making videos while wearing modern outfits, which reportedly became a point of conflict within the family.
Family members claimed Rajesh and Suman repeatedly objected to their daughter in law’s dressing style and online activity, leading to frequent arguments inside the house. The disputes reportedly intensified over the months, with both sides accusing each other of harassment and interference.
According to allegations made by the deceased couple’s relatives, Sneha and some of her family members mentally harassed the elderly couple and were also involved in physical confrontations during arguments. The constant tension allegedly pushed the couple into emotional distress.
After consuming poison, the couple was rushed to hospital by local residents. Suman reportedly died before reaching the hospital, while Rajesh was shifted to Rohtak for treatment. He later died during treatment on Sunday morning.
The incident created shock and sadness across the village, with many residents expressing concern over the growing impact of social media related conflicts on family relationships.
Based on a complaint filed by Rajesh’s brother, police registered a case against Sneha, her parents, and her sister. Officials confirmed that all four accused are currently absconding and efforts are underway to trace them.
