Air India Suspends Chicago and New York Flights Amid Rising Fuel Costs

Air India has temporarily cancelled several international routes including Chicago New York Shanghai and Singapore services as soaring jet fuel prices continue to increase operational pressure on global airlines

Air India has announced the temporary suspension of several major international flight services as the airline struggles with rising operational expenses caused by increasing jet fuel prices. The decision is expected to affect thousands of international passengers travelling from India in the coming weeks.

Among the suspended routes are the Delhi to Chicago service and the Mumbai to New York flights. The airline has also paused operations on the Delhi to Shanghai route and the Chennai to Singapore service, which is considered one of the important international connections from South India.

According to airline officials, the sharp rise in aviation fuel prices in the international market has placed significant financial pressure on airline operations. To manage mounting costs and reduce losses, the company has decided to temporarily halt selected long distance routes until market conditions improve.

Air India stated that passengers who have already booked tickets on the affected routes will be provided refunds or alternative travel arrangements. The airline also assured customers that efforts are being made to minimise inconvenience during the suspension period.

Industry experts say many global airlines are currently facing challenges due to fluctuating fuel prices and rising maintenance costs. Air India is expected to review the situation regularly and may restart the suspended international services once fuel prices stabilise and operations become financially viable again.
