PM Modi to Launch India First Hydrogen Train and Major Development Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India's first hydrogen powered train and unveil multiple infrastructure projects, marking a significant push towards clean transport and modern connectivity.

India is set to enter a new era of sustainable rail transportation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to launch the country’s first hydrogen powered passenger train. The train will operate on the Jind to Sonipat route in Haryana, making India one of the few nations with operational hydrogen powered railway technology.

Developed with indigenous technology, the train represents a significant step in India’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly transportation. Unlike diesel powered trains, the hydrogen fuel cell system generates electricity onboard while producing only water vapour, making it a zero emission alternative for passenger services.

The new train has been designed with 10 coaches and a 3200 horsepower propulsion system, making it one of the most powerful hydrogen powered passenger trains developed so far. Railway officials believe the project will strengthen India’s capabilities in advanced railway engineering while supporting the country’s clean energy goals.

During his visit to Haryana, the Prime Minister will also unveil development projects worth around Rs 14700 crore across sectors including highways, railways, healthcare, and public infrastructure. Several major road connectivity projects will be launched to improve transportation and reduce travel time across the state.

Among the key projects is the Delhi Amritsar Katra Expressway, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time between major cities while improving logistics and boosting tourism. Additional highway projects will strengthen connectivity between Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and the Delhi NCR region.

The Prime Minister will also dedicate new medical institutions to the public, expanding healthcare services and increasing opportunities for medical education in Haryana. Improved hospital infrastructure and additional MBBS seats are expected to benefit students and patients alike.

Following the Haryana programme, Modi is scheduled to visit Chandigarh and Jalandhar, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for more public infrastructure projects worth several thousand crore rupees.

The launch of the hydrogen powered train is expected to become the highlight of the visit, showcasing India’s growing focus on green technology, energy efficient transportation, and modern infrastructure development.
