Karnataka Governor Accepts Siddaramaiah Resignation as Chief Minister

Karnataka Governor accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Chief Minister and dissolved the cabinet, while discussions continue within the Congress leadership regarding the state’s next government formation.

A major political development unfolded in Karnataka after Governor Thawarchand Gehlot accepted the resignation submitted by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The decision formally brought an end to the current council of ministers, which was dissolved with immediate effect through an official notification.

Even after accepting the resignation, the Governor directed Siddaramaiah to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are finalized. The temporary arrangement is aimed at ensuring administrative continuity during the transition period.

The resignation was submitted on Thursday to the Governor’s office at Lok Bhavan. Acting under the powers granted by Article 164(1) of the Constitution, the Governor approved the resignation and initiated the process for a leadership change in the state government.

Attention has now shifted to the selection of Karnataka’s next Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah and senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar are currently in New Delhi, where discussions are taking place with the party’s central leadership regarding the transfer of power and future political arrangements.

Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah reportedly referred to his resignation during a breakfast meeting and indicated that D K Shivakumar would be his successor. He stated that the move was being made in accordance with the directions of the Congress high command.

Political observers are closely watching the developments, as the Congress leadership works toward finalizing the next phase of governance in Karnataka.
