DK Shivakumar to Become Karnataka Chief Minister on June 3

Congress is preparing for a leadership transition in Karnataka as DK Shivakumar is expected to become Chief Minister, with a new cabinet focused on social balance and youth representation.

A major leadership transition is set to take place in Karnataka, with senior Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expected to be sworn in as the state’s next Chief Minister on June 3. The move comes after the resignation of Siddaramaiah, bringing an end to months of speculation over the party’s leadership in the state.

Congress leaders are expected to formally endorse DK Shivakumar as the leader of the legislature party during a meeting scheduled in Bengaluru. Following the selection process, a delegation is likely to meet the Governor and stake claim to form the new government.

The choice of June 3 for the swearing in ceremony has drawn attention within political circles. Sources indicate that Shivakumar, who is known for his strong spiritual beliefs, selected the date after consultations with his personal astrologer. The date also reportedly suits the schedule of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is expected to attend the ceremony.

While the oath taking event is expected to be simple in nature, the political significance of the transition remains substantial. Shivakumar’s elevation marks a new phase for the Congress government in Karnataka and places one of the party’s most influential strategists at the helm.

At the same time, Congress leadership is working on the composition of a new cabinet aimed at maintaining social and regional balance. Party leaders are discussing representation for Dalits, Other Backward Classes, minorities, and younger politicians as part of a broader strategy for the future.

Reports suggest that the new government could include two Deputy Chief Ministers, with key positions likely to be distributed among different social groups. The party believes such a structure would help strengthen its support base across Karnataka.

Rahul Gandhi has reportedly emphasized the importance of giving greater opportunities to young leaders while ensuring adequate representation for historically underrepresented communities. As a result, several new faces could find a place in the cabinet, while some ministers from the previous government may not return.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah is understood to have held discussions with senior Congress leadership regarding the future political role of his son, MLC Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah. Political observers expect him to receive an important responsibility in the new administration.

With the leadership issue nearing resolution, attention is now turning to how DK Shivakumar will lead the government and shape Congress strategy ahead of future electoral challenges in Karnataka.
