Starlink Satellite Internet Set to Enter India Through Jio and Airtel Partnerships

Starlink satellite internet is moving closer to India as SpaceX signs partnership agreements with Jio and Airtel aiming to improve broadband connectivity across rural remote and underserved regions nationwide.

Starlink Moves Closer to India

India is preparing to welcome Starlink satellite internet services after Elon Musk’s SpaceX entered into partnership agreements with both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The collaborations are expected to strengthen internet connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved parts of the country where traditional broadband infrastructure remains limited.

Jio to Support Sales and Customer Services

Reliance Jio announced that it will work with SpaceX to make Starlink services more accessible across India. As part of the partnership, Jio plans to offer Starlink equipment through its retail outlets while also providing customer support to improve the overall user experience. The company believes the initiative will help deliver dependable broadband services to even the country’s most isolated regions.

Airtel Also Joins Hands With SpaceX

Before Jio’s announcement, Bharti Airtel confirmed that it had signed a similar agreement with SpaceX to introduce Starlink in India. Airtel described the partnership as an important step toward expanding next generation satellite connectivity and bringing high speed internet access to customers in rural and remote locations. The agreement will take effect once SpaceX secures the necessary regulatory approvals to officially offer Starlink services in India.

Policy Debate Ends With New Partnerships

The agreements come after months of discussion over how satellite spectrum should be allocated in India. Reliance had supported the idea of assigning spectrum through auctions, while SpaceX favored administrative allocation in line with global practices. The Indian government ultimately backed the administrative approach, paving the way for satellite internet providers to move ahead with their expansion plans.

Better Connectivity for Remote India

Industry experts believe the arrival of Starlink could significantly improve internet access in regions where laying fiber networks is difficult or expensive. With both Jio and Airtel partnering with SpaceX, satellite broadband is expected to complement existing telecom infrastructure and help bridge the digital divide across India.
