Reliance Jio Urges Government to Review Starlink Approval Before Granting Licence
Reliance Jio has asked the government to carefully assess the impact of Starlink before granting approval, saying the decision could significantly affect India's domestic telecom industry and competition.

Jio Calls for Careful Assessment
Reliance Jio has urged the central government to thoroughly examine the possible impact of allowing Elon Musk’s satellite internet company Starlink to operate in India. The telecom company believes the decision requires a detailed review before any licence is granted.
Concerns Over Domestic Competition
In its communication to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Jio reportedly stated that approving Starlink without a comprehensive assessment could create challenges for domestic telecom providers. The company has requested regulators to consider the broader implications for the Indian telecom sector.
Starlink Awaits Entry Into India
Starlink, owned by Elon Musk, has been seeking permission to launch its satellite based internet services in India. While its earlier attempts did not receive approval, the company is now moving closer to securing the required regulatory clearances.
Government Yet to Take Final Decision
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had earlier said that Starlink would be granted a licence if it fully complies with all government rules and regulatory requirements. The government’s final decision is expected after completing the necessary evaluation process.
