Centre Temporarily Bans Telegram Ahead of NEET Re Exam to Strengthen Exam Security
The Central Government has imposed temporary restrictions on Telegram and suspended message editing features to prevent misinformation and protect the integrity of the upcoming NEET Re Exam.
The Central Government has announced a temporary ban on the Telegram application across the country until June 22 as part of enhanced security arrangements ahead of the NEET Re Exam 2026. The move is aimed at preventing the spread of misleading content and safeguarding the examination process.
Action Taken on NTA Recommendation
The temporary restriction has reportedly been imposed following a recommendation from the National Testing Agency. Authorities have invoked provisions under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2020 to enforce the measure during the examination period.
Message Editing Feature Also Suspended
Along with the temporary ban, the government has directed Telegram to suspend its message editing feature until June 30. Officials believe disabling the feature will help prevent the alteration of previously posted messages that could be used to create fake evidence of question paper leaks after the exam.
Focus on Fair and Transparent Examinations
The latest measures reflect the government’s effort to strengthen the credibility of national entrance examinations. By restricting platforms and features that could potentially be misused, authorities aim to ensure a fair and transparent environment for candidates appearing in the NEET Re Exam.
