Hyderabad Chennai High Speed Rail Corridor Gets New Route Through Nalgonda

The Hyderabad Chennai High Speed Rail Corridor will now pass through Nalgonda district, reducing the project distance in Telangana significantly while improving connectivity and future logistics infrastructure.

A major change has been made to the proposed Hyderabad Chennai High Speed Rail Corridor, with authorities finalizing a new alignment that will pass through Nalgonda district. The revised route is expected to reduce the project length within Telangana by nearly half, making the corridor more efficient and cost effective.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation has modified the original alignment after detailed evaluations and discussions with the Telangana government. Survey work for the newly proposed route is already progressing at a rapid pace as officials move forward with planning for the ambitious project.

Under the revised plan, the high speed rail corridor will begin from Shamshabad and travel through Bharat City, Dry Port, Halia, and Vadapally before entering neighboring regions. This replaces the earlier proposal that routed the corridor through Batasingaram, Narketpally, Suryapet, and Khammam.

One of the most significant outcomes of the route change is the sharp reduction in project distance. The earlier alignment covered around 236 kilometers within Telangana, requiring extensive land acquisition. With the new route, the distance inside the state is expected to come down to nearly 123 kilometers, substantially reducing infrastructure requirements.

The revised corridor will also include four proposed stations in Telangana. Apart from Bharat City, the remaining stations at Dry Port, Halia, and Vadapally are expected to be located in Nalgonda district, bringing major transportation benefits to the region.

The Telangana government had earlier requested that the corridor be aligned through Bharat City and Vadapally to maximize regional development opportunities. Officials indicate that the newly finalized alignment reflects those recommendations while also offering operational advantages.

A key highlight of the project is the proposed station at the planned Dry Port. Telangana has been exploring ways to strengthen export and import logistics despite lacking a coastline. The Dry Port is expected to serve as a major hub for cargo handling, customs clearance, storage, and transportation linked to seaports across the country.

Experts believe the addition of a high speed rail station near the Dry Port could improve logistics efficiency, support industrial growth, and attract new investments. Faster connectivity between Telangana and major economic centers is also expected to boost trade and regional development.

With surveys continuing along the revised alignment, the Hyderabad Chennai High Speed Rail Corridor is emerging as one of the most important transportation projects planned for southern India, promising faster travel and stronger economic links between states.
