Goa Plans Major Electric Vehicle Push With Up To Fifty Percent Subsidy For Drivers
Goa is preparing a new electric vehicle policy offering up to fifty percent subsidy for licensed bike taxi and auto drivers while expanding charging infrastructure to encourage cleaner transportation statewide.

The Goa government is preparing a new electric vehicle policy aimed at accelerating the adoption of clean transportation across the state. Under the proposed plan, licensed bike taxi and auto rickshaw drivers could receive subsidies of up to fifty percent when purchasing electric vehicles. The initiative is designed to reduce fuel expenses for drivers while encouraging a shift away from petrol and diesel powered vehicles.
Alongside financial incentives, the government is also planning to strengthen charging infrastructure. Around 70 new electric vehicle charging stations are expected to be installed across Goa, making charging more accessible and helping drivers travel longer distances without worrying about battery range.
The proposal places special focus on bike taxi and auto rickshaw operators because they travel long distances every day and spend a significant amount on fuel. Switching to electric vehicles is expected to lower their daily operating costs, improve earnings, and provide a more affordable transportation option in the long run.
The new policy builds on Goa’s previous efforts to promote electric mobility. By introducing higher subsidies and expanding the charging network, the government hopes to encourage more people to choose electric vehicles while ensuring users have reliable support infrastructure throughout the state.
Experts believe wider adoption of electric vehicles can significantly reduce carbon emissions and decrease dependence on imported fossil fuels. A cleaner transport system is also expected to contribute to better air quality and a more sustainable future for the state.
If implemented successfully, the policy could position Goa among the leading states in the rapid adoption of electric vehicles for public transportation. The government also expects the move to support Goa’s tourism driven economy by promoting cleaner and environmentally friendly travel options for residents and visitors alike.
