Telangana to Launch New Health Scheme for Employees and Pensioners This Month

Telangana is preparing to roll out a new healthcare scheme for employees and pensioners, offering digital health cards, cashless treatment, and improved hospital payment systems across the state.

The Telangana government is set to introduce a long awaited healthcare scheme for state employees and pensioners later this month, aiming to provide seamless medical services through a modern and transparent system. Officials are currently finalizing guidelines to ensure smooth implementation across the state.

As part of the initiative, beneficiaries will receive digital health cards that can be used at empanelled corporate and private hospitals for cashless treatment. The government believes the new system will significantly improve access to quality healthcare while reducing financial stress for employees, pensioners, and their families.

To oversee the scheme, a dedicated Employee Healthcare Trust will be established. The trust will include representatives from employee unions and pensioners associations, ensuring stakeholder participation in decision making. A senior government official will be appointed as the Chief Executive Officer to supervise daily operations and monitor the scheme’s performance.

The Finance Department has already directed all government departments to upload details of employees, pensioners, and their dependent family members through an online portal. This data will be used to identify eligible beneficiaries and facilitate the distribution of digital health cards.

Officials had initially planned to launch the scheme on Telangana Formation Day. However, the rollout was slightly postponed to avoid operational issues and ensure that all systems function efficiently from day one. The government is keen to avoid the challenges faced under previous health card programs, where delayed payments often led to difficulties for beneficiaries seeking treatment.

A key feature of the new model is the collection of contributory funds from employees and pensioners. This mechanism is expected to ensure timely settlement of hospital bills, encouraging greater participation from private healthcare providers. Authorities believe regular payments will help hospitals deliver uninterrupted medical services under the scheme.

Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao is scheduled to hold a high level review meeting with senior officials, employee representatives, pensioners associations, and hospital managements to finalize operational guidelines and gather suggestions before the official launch.
