Heatwave Death Toll Rises Across Telugu States as 56 Die in One Day
Extreme temperatures and severe heatwave conditions across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh claimed 56 lives in a single day, raising concerns over public safety and urgent preventive measures.

A severe heatwave has tightened its grip across the Telugu states, with extreme temperatures creating dangerous conditions for people in several districts. In a tragic development, a total of 56 people lost their lives due to heatstroke in just one day, highlighting the growing impact of rising temperatures across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana recorded the highest number of deaths, with 40 people reportedly succumbing to heat related illnesses. Among the worst affected regions, the combined Warangal district reported 19 deaths. Six people each lost their lives in the combined districts of Nalgonda, Khammam, and Karimnagar, while Adilabad reported two deaths and Nizamabad recorded one fatality.
Andhra Pradesh also witnessed serious heatwave conditions, with 16 deaths linked to heatstroke. Districts including Guntur, Palnadu, Vijayawada, Anakapalli, and Eluru experienced intense heat, leaving residents struggling to cope with the harsh weather conditions.
Doctors explained that heatstroke becomes life threatening when the body’s temperature suddenly rises beyond normal levels, causing vital organs to fail. Medical experts warned that prolonged exposure to high temperatures and dehydration significantly increase health risks.
Authorities and health experts are urging people to remain cautious during this period. Elderly people, children, and pregnant women are advised to avoid going outdoors between 11 am and 4 pm unless absolutely necessary. People are also encouraged to drink enough water throughout the day and consume fluids such as buttermilk, coconut water, and ORS solutions to prevent dehydration.
Health officials further advised that symptoms like severe headache, unusual fatigue, vomiting, or a burning sensation in the body should not be ignored. Immediate medical attention and quick cooling measures can play a critical role in preventing further loss of life. Governments are also being urged to strengthen public support systems by arranging cooling shelters and ensuring essential medicines are available at health centers.
