DRI Seizes Hydroponic Ganja Worth Rs 3.05 Crore at RGIA and Arrests Two Passengers

DRI officials at Hyderabad airport uncovered a major ganja smuggling attempt after recovering hydroponic ganja hidden inside multiple containers from passengers arriving from Bangkok.

A major drug smuggling attempt was intercepted at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials recovered a large quantity of hydroponic ganja from two passengers arriving from Bangkok.

The operation was carried out after DRI officers received specific intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movement of narcotics through the airport. Based on the information, authorities closely monitored the passengers and stopped them for detailed inspection after their arrival.

During the baggage examination process, officials reportedly noticed suspicious items packed inside the checked luggage. A thorough search later led investigators to uncover 24 black packets containing a greenish lumpy substance with a strong smell.

According to officials, the packets had been carefully concealed in different items including insulated water bottles, potato snack containers, food tins, cardboard boxes, and plastic packages in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.

The seized material was subjected to a narcotic detection test and the substance reportedly tested positive as ganja. Authorities stated that the total recovered quantity weighed around 8.705 kilograms.

Officials estimated the value of the seized hydroponic ganja at nearly Rs 3.05 crore in the illegal market. Following the seizure, both passengers were arrested under provisions of the NDPS Act 1985.

Investigators are now continuing further inquiries to determine the source of the narcotics and identify any larger network that may be linked to the smuggling operation.
